History Of G & L Clothing

 Established in 1917, G&L Clothing has been an institution of downtown Des Moines, Iowa for nearly a century. Lou Garsh and Meyer Levine first opened G&L Clothing downtown to sell work clothing, shoes, and boots to railroad workers, construction workers, farmers and tradesmen. G&L Clothing later changed owners and moved to 9th and Locust until a 1996 fire destroyed the building. After the fire, the Marcovis family decided to construct a new building on Ingersoll Avenue where G&L Clothing now resides. An online presence first emerged in 1999 followed by the launch of our eCommerce store gandlclothing.com in 2005.

 

We are honored to welcome G&L to the Boot Barn family. We are committed to maintaining the same welcoming neighborhood feeling and friendly faces you have come to know and appreciate at G&L. And, we are committed to providing all of your work and safety needs with the ultimate work gear.

We carry over 500 styles of Carhartt work gear, over 400 styles of flame resistant clothing from Carhartt, Ariat, Cinch, and Rasco, and we have over 1,700 styles of work boots for every industry including construction, agriculture, railroad, oil and gas, and more.
